Devin Haney vs. Vasiliy Lomachenko: Sergio Mora picks winner from close title fight

Devin Haney vs. Vasiliy Lomachenko: Sergio Mora picks winner from close title fightDAZN

Former light middleweight champion Sergio Mora believes that Vasiliy Lomachenko was the real winner of the title fight with Devin Haney on Saturday.

The former unified champion took on the current undisputed lightweight titlist in Las Vegas, and while he pushed the unbeaten American hard, the judges ultimately scored it in favour of the incumbent.

Some observers were firm in their belief that the Ukrainian had been robbed, but others suggested that in a close fight, it was just as reasonable to interpret the action as being Haney’s win.

Speaking to JABS on DAZN, Chris Mannix asked Mora who he believed was the winner, and Mora backed the challenger - but only just.

“I think Loma won the fight, seven-five,” he began.

“A lot of close rounds but I just think Loma was a better storyteller. Think about Leonard vs. Haggler. Everyone thought Haggler won that fight, including yourself, but who told the better story? It was Sugar Ray Leonard.

“It was all about who told the better story, the judges, the fans and everyone in attendance. I thought Loma squeezed out enough to win this fight.”
