Bill Haney was the mastermind behind Devin Haney’s impressive win over Regis Prograis last weekend as he coached his son to another world title win.
Haney dominated the New Orleans man to become WBC champion at 140lbs following a successful run at lightweight where he reigned as undisputed champion.
With his performance earning universal appraisal from the boxing community, the elder Haney now believes his son is the best fighter on the planet.
With Terence Crawford, Naoya Inoue, Oleksandr Usyk the usual suspects for top spot, Bill has spoken passionately about Devin being the pound for pound best.
“No other fighter has done what Devin has done,” said Haney when speaking to Boxing Scene at the post-fight press conference.
“Crossing the pond to become undisputed. Coming up to another division and fighting the hard-hitting, you know, the boogeyman no one wanted to fight. He’s the number one fighter right now, pound-for-pound.”
