Did Daniel Dubois hit Oleksandr Usyk with a low blow? Teddy Atlas offers his verdict

Did Daniel Dubois hit Oleksandr Usyk with a low blow? Teddy Atlas offers his verdictDAZN

The discussion on Daniel Dubois’ low blow against Oleksandr Usyk rumbles on and Teddy Atlas is the latest figure from the sport to have his say.

Usyk retained his world titles in Poland against the Brit challenger, but the result has been overshadowed by a shot in the fight’s fifth round that dropped the Ukrainian but was quickly called below the belt by the referee.

Images have been shared on social media from a variety of angles that support both fighters, and Dubois’ team are launching an appeal over the verdict.

It’s undecided what the next move will be for either Usyk or Dubois until his appeal his heard, but Atlas, one of boxing’s most opinionated voices, doesn’t believe the shot was legal.

“It didn’t seem to be on the groin area, it seemed to be on the side, but it was below the line and below where the cup begins,” said Atlas on The Fight podcast

“It wasn’t dramatically below, but it was below. So it’s technically a low blow, that’s not too hard to define.”
