Jermall Charlo was taken the distance despite being expected to win easy.

WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo has long been accused of ducking some of the biggest names in boxing, but after his UD win over Juan Macias Montiel the 31-year-old called out both Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin.

And though a potential unification bout with WBO champion Demetrius Andrade could be an option, it now finally seems that Charlo has his eyes on boxing's big dogs.

And after defending his title for the fourth time to take his professional boxing record to 31-0, Charlo's stock may just be as high as ever.

Speaking on the DAZN Boxing Show, boxing pundit Ak Reyes said Charlo proved he is an exciting fighter.

"Every fight is not going to have the same outcome even if you're a great fighter," Reyes said.

"His opponent on Saturday night was one of those tough, awkward, switch hitter types. He confused me just watching him. Charlo was in a fight. It happens to the best of them.

"This particular performance, in my opinion, was him showing that he can stay in a pocket, take some shots, take risks. But I think that his stock is going up because he's an exciting fighter."

And fellow pundit Barak the Boxing Bully was in agreement, crediting Charlo for the manner in which he showed respect to Macias in the aftermath of the 12-rounder.

"I think that also the way you talk in the post fight interview is very important. I look at Andy Ruiz and how he had a tough fight with Chris Arriola. The fans were booing him, but man he was a hell of a champion.

"Charlo gave so much respect to Montiel that everybody had to respect them. And I think that was very important. Instead of clowning, he gave Montiel credit where credit was deserved and even put the medal around his neck and I think that was just a champion way to end the fight.

"It was a hell of a fight. It was a really, really tough fight."
