Dillian Whyte: I'm going to knock Alexander Povetkin outDAZN

Dillian Whyte claims he is certain to knock out Alexander Povetkin when they meet in their rematch at the end of November.

Whyte lost to Povetkin in a surprise defeat during Eddie Hearn’s lockdown Fight Camp series, giving up his status as the WBC interim champion.

However, he immediately exercised a rematch clause and is determined to put right his defeat, something he believes he is well capable of.

The heavyweight watched his clash again to analyse his performance on Sky Sports on Sunday, and explained how the defeat came about.

“Everyone just thinks, ‘Ah he was slipping.’ I wasn’t slipping, I threw a short right to come up with the hook," he said.

“Threw a short right to get him to move his head and come up with a hook.

“But then he’s just come up the middle.”

While Whyte is confident of a win in the rematch, he has not identified a fundamental flaw in his approach, putting the loss down to the 41-year-old Russian’s superior amateur experience.

“I don’t think there was anything wrong the first time,” he said.

“It’s just one of those things where I was boxing well, I was dominating the fight and I got caught.

“People do forget, I had seven amateur fights, this guy had hundreds of amateur fights. Olympic champion.

“I’m still learning. He’s seen about 50 opponents the same style as me that come forward and do whatever I have.”

When asked how and if he would win, he quickly answered: “I’m gonna knock Povetkin out November 21.

“I’m not one that usually says, ‘Oh I’m gonna knock someone out in this fight, I’m gonna knock someone out in that fight.’

“But I’m definitely gonna knock him out November 21,100 per cent.”
