Dillian Whyte's promoter does not think Deontay Wilder would want anything to do with the Londoner, but would love to make the fight if he does.

Eddie Hearn has admitted he really likes the sound of a heavyweight contender's slugfest between his charge Dillian Whyte and American former world champion Deontay Wilder, but believes it will only be viable if both fighters win their respective next bouts first.

Whyte returns to the ring on Mar. 6 when he rematches Alexander Povetkin, knowing his world title aspirations will be over if he is defeated by the Russian a second time.

Wilder, meanwhile, has been out of action for a year since losing the WBC title to Tyson Fury. Much speculation has followed with regards to his next move, or whether he will be the same fighter when he does return.

Hearn admitted to Sky Sports that, if Whyte gets his revenge over Povetkin, he highly fancies Whyte to hand Wilder his second professional defeat.

"First things first is March 6 for Dillian Whyte," Hearn said. "If he loses that, then he can forget fighting Deontay Wilder, and he can forget fighting for a world championship, so he must win that fight.

"For me, outside of AJ against Fury, Whyte-Wilder remains one of the biggest fights in boxing. I would love to make that fight.

"I think Deontay Wilder needs to get back in the ring. I certainly wouldn't be looking to put him in with Dillian Whyte straight off the bat.

"He needs a fight in my opinion. Presumably he's going to be working with a new team of trainers."

Hearn went on to expand on what he believes the current issues are over at Camp Wilder.

"I think there's a lot of unrest in that team," he added. "Obviously Mark Breland and Jay Deas and Shelly Finkel and Al Haymon, the old saying, 'Too many cooks spoil the broth'.

"Sometimes a massive team of people that actually aren't all on the same boat can be a disaster. I think in that team now, it's so disjointed and fragmented, that I don't know what they're going to do.

"I'll let them sort out their problems. Hope to see Wilder in the ring. Good fighter, great for the sport of boxing, so let's see these fights."

Whyte vs. Povetkin II airs live March 6 on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK and on DAZN everywhere else.
