Dimitry Bivol thinks that Terence Crawford is the best fighter in the world, and considers it “possible” that he could beat Canelo Alvarez.
Bivol defeated Canelo back in 2022 in one of the sport’s biggest upsets that year, and last year he enjoyed a relatively easy - if unspectacular - decision victory against Lyndon Arthur at the Day or Reckoning.
For Bivol, it tees up a 2024 when he is expected, if not certain, to face unified light heavyweight Artur Beterbiev in an undisputed match-up, with a rematch against Canelo looking ever more unlikely.
For his part, Crawford finally stepped into the ring with Errol Spence Jr. last year and walked away as the undisputed welterweight champion, and still the best pound-for-pound fighter in the eyes of many.
Neither Crawford nor Canelo have ruled out a meeting, though it would likely require “Bud” to move up to at least middleweight to make the fight.
Speaking to BoxingScene.com, Bivol sees no reason for that to stop him winning against the Mexican, who is yet to decide on his next opponent.
“When I stepped into a boxing gym, the first rule was to respect weight classes. But I don't know what [Crawford is] going to eat,” he said.
“He's the best fighter. Everything that he's planning, shouldn't look like it's crazy. If he's thinking about it, if he's talking about it, it means it's possible.”
