WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol does not expect a rematch with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez to feature in his immediate plans.
The fighters first went head-to-head in May 2022 for Bivol's WBA light heavyweight title and it was contest which Bivol dominated with a unanimous decision victory.
Since then, Bivol and Alvarez have been linked with a rematch, but while the former has other career aspirations on his mind, he will not totally dismiss a second meeting with the Mexican if the opportunity presents itself.
"To be honest, I didn’t want a rematch too much,” Bivol told BoxingScene.
“I was enjoying my position. If he wants the rematch, OK. I told [him], ‘OK, we can make it.’ But I didn’t want it so much. You know, I have my own way. If not Canelo, I have another way. No problem."
“Canelo has more chances than other fighters in boxing,” Bivol continued.
“If Canelo wants some fight, he could make this fight. He has more of a chance to influence the situation than other boxers.”
Bivol finally returns to action after 13 months on Saturday when he defends his WBA title against Lyndon Arthur on the "Day of Reckoning" card in Saudi Arabia on December 23 which will be broadcast live on DAZN PPV.
You can watch the Day of Reckoning, featuring Anthony Joshua vs. Otto Wallin, Deontay Wilder vs. Joseph Parker and Daniel Dubois vs. Jarrell Miller, on DAZN PPV on Saturday, December 23. Click here for more details.
