The two are linked with a massive fight for 2024.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman gave an update on the proposed undisputed clash between Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev.

The two champions appear on course for a meeting this year after Ramadan after both fighters appeared keen to face off, with Saudi Arabia inevitably put forward as a potential host venue for the light heavyweight fight.

Beterbiev defeated Callum Smith in Canada earlier in the month, while Bivol fought at Day of Reckoning for a routine points win over Lyndon Arthur.

Both of them seem to regard an undisputed fight as a logical progression, but speaking to Sky Sports, Sulaiman said there has been little official progress.

"We have not received a sanctioning request for that fight so before we receive it, it would be speculation," Sulaiman said. "I've seen some media outlets [reporting it], so we will get in contact with the promoters."

Discussing the flexibility that some fights need regarding relaxed rules over mandatory challengers, Sulaiman added: "That gives that special fighter a special status that he can go on and do the things that are doable.

"Fans, media like undisputed and that's correct. You want to see who's the best. That's it. Boxing's structure is different, there are four organisations that are recognised. [With] the obstacles of promoters, networks, this and that, then it leads sometimes to the undisputed champion losing one or two or three belts.

"But I am positive that things will continue to grow in a way in which the great champions that accomplish something are addressed on a different scale, [from] a different position, because they have done something that is extraordinary that takes many years to happen.

"But we will see."
