It was a stunning return to the ring for Luis Pineda, who defeated Ed Matthews in the main even of MF & DAZN: X Series 012 on Saturday.
The fight was billed as Matthews vs. a mystery opponent, as Pineda's identity was kept a secret until after Matthews' ringwalk.Ā
While Matthews exuded confidence ahead of the fight, bolstered by his performance against Swarmz last year, Pineda showed why he is seen as one of the biggest names in the crossover boxing scene with a calm, collected outing against the aggressive Matthews.
Matthews' trademark intensity was on display to start the first round, but the Mexican weathered the initial storm and ended the opening frame with a knockdown.
When Matthews opened Round 2 in similar fashion, Pineda calmly took back control before forcing his opponent through the ropes and out of the ring with a flurry of punches that ultimately stopped the fight.
It was a thrilling end to an entertaining event that also saw Elle Brooke defeatĀ AJ Bunker for the Misfits Boxing women's middleweight title and back-to-back first-round knockouts on the undercard.
