Eddie Hearn has claimed that former Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney can beat Jake Paul if the pair met in a boxing match.

Over recent days Rooney has been linked with a shock foray into the world of boxing, however, the 38-year-old brought an end to these rumours saying he was focusing on his career as a manager.

However, Rooney has previous history with the world of boxing and if he did decide to lace up the gloves, it would generate huge interest across the world.

Speaking to DAZN, Hearn gave his thoughts on a possible boxing debut for Rooney and named a potential venue for his first fight.

"Jake Paul," Hearn responded when asked who he would like to see Rooney face.

"I’ve actually said before Wayne Rooney against Jake Paul at Old Trafford, it’s a huge event and I back Wayne Rooney to win it."

Paul made his professional boxing debut in January 2020 and currently boasts a 8-1 record with his only loss coming against Tommy Fury.

The YouTuber turned boxer is set to return on March 2 against Ryan Bourland on the undercard of Amanda Serrano's clash with Nina Meinke, and both fights can be seen live on DAZN.
