The promoter believes the Russia victor was simply too strong for his challenger.

Eddie Hearn pointed to a number of factors that he believed contributed to Josh Kelly’s defeat to David Avanesyan on Saturday.

Kelly’s trainer Adam Booth threw in the towel in the sixth round after it appeared that his fighter was rapidly fading after a succession of body blows, but that was merely the one reason for his loss.

Speaking to iFL TV, Hearn suggested that blood loss from a cut to the back of the head could have contributed to his sudden fatigue.

“I talked to Kelly, and he said that he felt weak after the fifth round,” Hearn told iFL TV.

“He’d lost so much blood on the back of his head. Was that an issue? Yeah, I think it was. Was the weight an issue? Yeah, maybe.”

“Was the toughness of David Avaneysan an issue?,” he continued.

“We also need to give massive credit to David Avanesyan; he looked like a man on a mission last night. I thought he looked like a guy that wasn’t going to be denied.

“He was roughing him up and making sure that when he got him on that backstretch that he was war-torn. Was it a little bit of professional experience, or was it he wasn’t good enough on the night?”
