Eddie Hearn, the promoter of Anthony Joshua, has confirmed that he held a brief face-to-face meeting with Tyson Fury with the pair currently both in America.
Whilst in Las Vegas to check in on Billy Joe Saunders’ training camp ahead of his huge showdown with Canelo Alvarez, a fight that will be shown live on DAZN, Hearn reached out to Fury.
With the lineal heavyweight champion removing ring rust in Nevada as he awaits a potential blockbuster clash with Joshua, he was open to sitting down with a senior member of his rival’s camp.
Hearn’s whirlwind tour of America has included visits to gyms of both Canelo and Saunders before he heads to Miami to watch Demetrius Andrade take on Liam Williams, another fight exclusively screened by DAZN. Before arriving in Florida, he was eager to chat with Fury.
“I saw Tyson. I just messaged him and said, ‘I’m in Vegas, I’m in your hotel if you fancy a cuppa.’ said Hearn to Behind The Gloves. “We just had five or ten minutes together and it was good, because I don’t represent Tyson Fury, so I don’t know what is in his mind.
“What he basically cemented in my mind was, this is the only fight he wants, and I know that’s the same with AJ. It just good to say, right we’ve got the offer, we all approve. We’re moving forward now. We’re good.”
Despite the positive discussion, a fight between Fury and Joshua is still no nearer to being finalised. Both fighters have committed to a two-fight series but items like location and date still need to be agreed.
