Eddie Hearn has a new world champion.

Eddie Hearn was very impressed with Ray Ford as the Amercian produced a sensational last round stoppage to become WBA featherweight champion against Otabek Khomatov.

The fight had been expected to deliver due to the talent involved, but it provided unexpected drama as Ford rescued the fight in the closing stages.

Despite being behind on two of the judges’ scorecards heading into the final session, Ford refused to be denied as he kept going until the end.

Ford now has numerous opportunities in front of him as world champion, but Hearn is eager to take him to New Jersey for a triumphant homecoming.

“What a fight, what a night, I’m so proud of him,” said Hearn when speaking to Fighthype

“Behind on two scorecards and up on one, I thought if we nicked the twelfth round, it would be really close. As it stands, he had to stop him. He had to stop him to win a world championship, and he done it with 20 seconds to go. A new world champ, America has a new star.

“Let’s bring him home to Camden, New Jersey, and the future is bright. It’s just the beginning, just a young man.”
