Eddie Hearn gives update on potential Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia rematch

Eddie Hearn gives update on potential Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia rematchGolden Boy
The two American stars produced a thrilling contest on Saturday night.

Promoter Eddie Hearn believes that Devin Haney would be interested in a rematch with Ryan Garcia, even if it does take place at a higher weight.

Haney and Garcia fought for the first time as professionals on Saturday night and it was a matchup which produced a number of standout moments.

Despite a fast start from Garcia in the opening round, Haney appeared to be in control for the first half of the fight, but after being knocked down by Garcia in the seventh, Haney was shell shocked and found himself on the wrong end of two more knock downs before the final bell.

Those three Garcia knockdowns appeared to be the difference with the 25-year-old being given the majority decision on the judges' scorecards and this resulted in calls for a rematch.

However, with Garcia claiming in the fight's aftermath that he would be moving up to welterweight, could this scupper a Haney rematch with him still the WBC's super lightweight champion?

Hearn, who was co-promoting Haney for this event, certainly does not think so when speaking in an interview with Boxing News

"Listen, if the rematch is at 147, I’m sure Devin would be up for that," Hearn said.

"I think the rematch is huge, those guys did good numbers together, they are two guys in their prime.

"Ryan’s got a lot of options, he was already a star going into that fight, he’s an even bigger star now."
