Eddie Hearn lines up Conor Benn fight for July 9: 'Jose Ramirez is the one that I would love'DAZN
The welterweight contender is on course for another fight in 2022.

Eddie Hearn hopes to set up a fight with Jose Ramirez for Conor Benn this July.

The Matchroom head is hoping to get a bout arranged for the WBA Continental welterweight champion as he continues to garner experience ahead of an expected world title fight in the relatively near future.

Hearn thinks that Ramirez, a former WBC and WBO light welterweight champion, has the profile to help build his fighter’s reputation.

Ramirez has been considering a move up to welterweight recently and Benn would allow him to fight in front of a big UK audience, while Hearn suggested other names could also be considered.

“We’ve made an offer to Top Rank,” Hearn told IFL TV. “It’s a fight that I like.”

Hearn also explained that Benn is keen to fight another former world champion, Keith Thurman, saying: “Conor wants to fight Keith Thurman, which I think is a very, very [tough opponent]. I’d like to have one more before he fights Keith Thurman. I’m just being straight up, but he’s ready to go.

“Obviously, he was disappointed that Kell Brook chose to retire. Mikey Garcia, Maurice Hooker,” Hearn said of other options.

”Jose Ramirez is the one that I would love to get [for Conor].

“If I can get Jose Ramirez over an Avanesyan, no disrespect, we have to do that. If we can’t get a big name, we would consider Avanesyan. Benn-Avanesyan, does that sell out the O2?

“Not a lot of people know who Avanesyan is. He’s a great fighter, but I would like a big name that resonates worldwide.

“If I can get Jose Ramirez for Conor Benn, I’m sure anyone with a brain would understand that’s a bigger, better fight for the global profile of Conor Benn.”
