Despite a brutal loss to Daniel Dubois last time out, Eddie Hearn is insistent that Anthony Joshua is still the biggest name in the heavyweight division.
In September, Joshua was dropped four times before being stopped in round five as Dubois caused one of the biggest upsets of the year.
The result prevented Joshua from becoming heavyweight champion for a third time, and there’s still no official confirmation what the Watford fighter will do next.
Joshua had been expected to go into an immediate rematch with Dubois, but that no longer looks likely with Dubois set to defend his world title against a different opponent in February.
One potential option for Joshua could be a meeting with Tyson Fury in 2025, but that all hangs on whether Fury can defeat Oleksandr Usyk on December 21, live on DAZN .
A second loss to Usyk could push Fury closer to a big showdown with Joshua, and that is a contest that could do blockbuster business in Britain.
Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, has endured several tough nights with his fighter, but he believes that Joshua’s popularity still makes him a huge attraction.
“As frustrating as it is to certain people in boxing, AJ is arguably still the biggest star in the heavyweight division, having just lost,” said Hearn when speaking to Sky Sports .
“That’s the reality of the situation. He’s going to be fine. He can walk into any fight. Personally, he wants to fight Daniel Dubois.
“Maybe we will fight him in the summer, or maybe we will see what happens on December 21. I think Fury, win or lose, will want to fight AJ next and that’s something we’ve got to decide."
