Eddie Hearn wants one fighter to let go of his belt.

Jermall Charlo will appear in his first bout in almost three years on November 25 when he faces Jose Benavidez in a ten-round bout with no title at stake.

Charlo has not defended his WBC middleweight belt since 2019 and with the belt being out of action for a very long time, Eddie Hearn has called for him to give the belt up.

Despite holding a top prize at 160lbs, the focus for Charlo, if successful against Benavidez, is likely to be a 2024 showdown with Canelo Alvarez at 168lbs.

If that fight can be made, the unbeaten Texan could wave goodbye to his current weight, but Hearn has called on him to relinquish the title now after failing to make a defence in over two years.

“He’s not defended the title in over [two years] has he?” asked Hearn when speaking to Boxing Social

“Time for him to move out and let someone fight for the middleweight title I think.”
