Eddie Hearn is bemused when it comes to Teofimo Lopez’s popularity following the New Yorker’s recent win over Josh Taylor.

A frequent performer at the highest level for a number of years now, Lopez is one of boxing's brightest talents thanks to wins over Taylor and Vasiliy Lomachenko, but his impressive victories haven't transferred into commercial success.

Hearn, who knows Lopez very well after promoting the sole loss of his career against George Kambosos, believes the two-weight world champion should be a much bigger draw.

With Lopez’s next move still unknown after he offered an unconvincing retirement speech after his points success over Taylor, Hearn has had his say on the American.

“I just don’t understand why Teofimo has never been a big star, particularly in New York,” said Hearn when speaking to FightHype

“Like this kid, he’s from Brooklyn. He’s an unbelievable talent, he’s outspoken, he’s a character, and he’s a personality.

“He should be a megastar, that kid. I don’t understand it, but not really my business.”
