Eddie Hearn is targeting a world title shot for Zelfa Barrett after the Manchester fighter produced a stunning finish to stop Jordan Gill in ten rounds in front of his home crowd.
Barrett appeared to be slowing down against the former European featherweight champion, but he found the necessary shot to emphatically turn things back in his favour when it mattered most.
Barrett started brightly behind his jab and the shot he threw frequently put him in an early lead before Gill began to show more ambition.
Heading into the latter stages, the fight was evenly poised but a superb left hook to Gill’s body was enough to drop him and after going down a second time, Gill was stopped shortly after.
In the immediate aftermath, Eddie Hearn, the promoter of the fight, praised both fighters for their efforts and then revealed his hopes for the victor.
Lamont Roach and Joe Cordina were two names mentioned by Hearn, and those are two opponents that are almost certain to motivate Barrett as he closes in on his second world title shot.
