While it's been widely rumoured that the winner of Saturday's Daniel Dubois vs. Filip Hrgovic fight would go on to face Anthony Joshua later this year, Eddie Hearn says there's another opponent that could swoop in to take on "AJ" instead.
Dubois and Hrgovic are set to square off Saturday as part of the Queensberry vs. Matchroom 5v5 card, live worldwide on DAZN. It's expected that the victor will meet Joshua in the fall, possibly with a title on the line, with Hearn labelling the Dubois-Hrgovic winner "the frontrunner" for such a bout earlier this week.
However, the Matchroom boss has now named a possible new opponent for Joshua.
Should Deontay Wilder put on a show against Zhilei Zhang in the headline fight of this weekend's card, he could jump to the front of the line to face the former unified world heavyweight champion, according to Hearn.
“The frontrunner to fight AJ next is the winner of Hrgovic-Dubois and [it's] likely to be for the [IBF] world title," Hearn told DAZN.
"But at the same time, if Deontay Wilder comes and looks sensational, maybe it reignites Joshua against Wilder."
