Katie Taylor faces Amanda Serrano this Saturday night, exclusively live on DAZN, and Eddie Hearn, the show’s co-promoter, can’t contain his excitement.
After guiding Taylor from her professional debut to superstardom, the Matchroom chairman is hopeful that his charge can go one step further and add to her legacy by defeating Serrano this weekend.
The fight, the first clash that will see two female fighters headline at Madison Square Garden, has created a huge buzz, and Hearn is insistent that the intriguing battle is the biggest women’s fight in boxing.
With 2022 set to be a marquee year for female fighters, the Essex promoter has no doubt just how huge Taylor vs. Serrano is.
“We’re talking two legends of the sport,” said Hearn when speaking to IFLTV.
“This is Mayweather/Pacquiao for women’s boxing. You’ve got an undisputed champion and you’ve got a seven-division champion. It’s putting a blueprint in place [for women’s boxing] but not every fight is going to sell out the Garden.”
