Talks for a fight between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk are still ongoing.

Eddie Hearn has stated that there will be a rematch clause in place for the imminent Anthony Joshua vs. Oleksandr Usyk agreement. Both camps are deep into negotiations regarding an autumn showdown between the 2012 Olympic gold medallists with the Tottenham Hotspur stadium the frontrunner to stage the event.

After cleaning up at cruiserweight, Usyk has been climbing the heavyweight rankings and currently finds himself as WBO mandatory challenger. If he does upset the odds against Joshua then it’s likely that his first defence will be against the man he took the title from.

Joshua is no stranger to rematch clauses. In December 2019, Joshua avenged his loss to Andy Ruiz six months after the Mexican underdog shocked the world in New York City. If “AJ” is to lose again then he’ll have an immediate chance to grab revenge.

"There will be a [rematch] clause,” insisted Hearn to Boxing Social. All the terms are agreed. When you talk about a rematch clause that's also the biggest fight that a fighter could have.

"So sometimes people think 'oh that's a bad thing', it's actually sometimes a good thing. Andy Ruiz ended up actually getting quite a lot of money for his rematch, but it's a massive opportunity, if Oleksandr Usyk wins he makes an absolute fortune to fight “AJ” again."
