Eddie Hearn suggests 60,000 seat stadium venue for Canelo Alvarez vs. John Ryder world title fight

Eddie Hearn suggests 60,000 seat stadium venue for Canelo Alvarez vs. John Ryder world title fightDAZN

Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium appears to be the frontrunner to stage a Canelo Alvarez U.K. fight as the Mexican icon considers a fight with John Ryder.

There’s been plenty of speculation surrounding Canelo’s British debut, and that event appears closer after Ryder took the WBO interim title at 168lbs when defeating Zach Parker this past weekend.

Canelo has had a mixed 2022 with a defeat against Dmitry Bivol in May taking place before a win over Gennadiy Golovkin in September.

Campaigning at multiple weights over the last few years, Canelo has plenty of options, but if Ryder is the direction he goes in, then Hearn already has plans to stage the fight in London.

"I am so pleased for John Ryder. Since he beat Daniel Jacobs, we've been looking for this big fight," said when speaking with Matchroom Boxing

"I've already texted Eddy Reynoso to say, 'John Ryder is mandatory, let's go in May at the Emirates'. It would be a dream for Ryder, he deserves it.

"He is a very good fighter and he's the mandatory challenger for Canelo Alvarez. This could be our chance to bring Canelo to the UK, it would be unbelievable. We'll see if we can get it over the line."
