Promoter Eddie Hearn is expecting a big 2024 for heavyweight Anthony Joshua.
Joshua got his third win of 2023 on Saturday night when he stopped Otto Wallin after five rounds which has set up a huge fight for next year.
Many expected Joshua to face Deontay Wilder in a long-awaited matchup if he got past Wallin, but these plans were then scuppered after the American lost to Joseph Parker.
Now it looks like Joshua will instead be attempting to become a three-time world champion with a proposed matchup against Croatia's Filip Hrgovic for the IBF world heavyweight title according to Hearn.
“He's back, he's destroying people in sparring, I believe he's the best heavyweight in the world,” Hearn stated at the post fight press conference.
“It was a punch-perfect performance. He dispatched him. It was a stunning performance, in this mindset and this team, I think he’s unbeatable.
"2024 will be a massive year for him. It was a tough decision, between the championship and [facing] Wilder. We signed for Wilder, he lost, that’s OK.
"Maybe it’s a blessing. This guy is about championships, he wants to become a three-time world champion.
“Wallin was No.2 [ranked]. It’ll be Hrgovic vs AJ for the world title. I’m so happy to see him smiling and performing so well. He’s a dangerous man in that mood. He’s back.”
