Errol Spence Jr. provides update following emergency eye surgery

Errol Spence Jr. provides update following emergency eye surgeryDAZN
The unified world welterweight champion was trying to do anything to ensure that the Aug. 21 fight against Manny Pacquiao happened.

If Errol Spence Jr. had it his way, he would have waited until after his Aug. 21 fight with Manny Pacquiao to have emergency surgery on his torn retina.

Of course, doctors weren't going to allow that and Spence was replaced by WBA (Super) welterweight champion Yordenis Ugas. Still, Spence, the unified WBC/IBF welterweight champion, detailed his last-ditch effort to try to make sure that the Pacquiao fight went on as planned via a post on his Instagram account Wednesday night.

"It could always be worse & being able to see my kids grow is the most important thing to me even though I was telling the doctor let me fight this fight & I’ll get surgery right after," the undefeated champion said in the IG post, which is accompanied by a photo of him with a bandage covering his surgically repaired eye.

Pacquiao has told various media outlets that he would still be willing to fight Spence once "The Truth" fully recovers.

As of now, there isn't a time table for when Spence will be fully healed from the surgery and ready to return to the ring.
