Devin Haney declared it inside the ring at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California, and live on DAZN pay-per-view, Saturday night.
"140 got a new king," Haney told DAZN's Chris Mannix moments after defeating Regis Prograis to become the new WBC super lightweight world champion.
With that statement win in his 140-pound debut, Haney has plenty of options in his new division and possibly even at welterweight, which "The Dream" disclosed to Mannix that he is considering moving up to.
Here, DAZN takes a look at five possible opponents for Haney in the New Year.
Ryan Garcia
Garcia was active on social media Saturday, talking about fighting and defeating Haney in 2024. After Haney beat Prograis, Eddie Hearn rattled off a few possible opponents for Haney with Garcia's name being the first.
Hearn mentioned how both boxers calling DAZN home would make a fight between them all the more easy to make. He also mentioned how big the fight would be.
There's no doubt that Haney vs. Garcia would attract plenty of fanfare. The two have entertained fighting before but such a bout hasn't materialized. With both coming off wins a week apart now, perhaps 2024 can be the year for that to change.
Teofimo Lopez
Now that Haney has snatched hardware at super lightweight, he can go for some more in the division. At 140 pounds, Teofimo Lopez reigns as the WBO world champion, meaning a fight between he and Haney would be title unification bout.
Haney and Lopez are far from strangers with them and their fathers/trainers slinging verbal jabs at each other in the past.
Both defeated Vasiliy Lomachenko and can use a fight against the other to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt who the better boxer is.
Could Haney withstand the boxer-puncher skills and power of "The Takeover?"
Mario Barrios
If Haney follows through with moving up to the 147-pound welterweight division, perhaps he can look to WBC interim champ Mario Barrios for a possible fight.
Barrios is a former super lightweight world champion, who defeated Yordenis Ugas in September to become the new WBC interim welterweight titleholder.
Haney challenging and defeating Barrios would make him a three-division world champ and that's enticing enough of a reason to consider this as an option.
Shakur Stevenson
Any talk of a Haney vs. Stevenson fight was left as just that — chatter — when the bout never came to fruition over purse discrepancies.
Well, that hasn't stopped the two from trading insults as Stevenson has repeatedly insinuated that Haney purposely low-balled an offer to him to avoid fighting.
After Stevenson's lackluster win against Edwin De Los Santos last month, Haney took to his X account and called the Newark, New Jersey product a "bum" and implored to the boxing community that "nobody was ever scared of that bum!"
Regardless of their mutual dislike for each other, a fight between them would put pure boxing skills at the forefront in what would promise to be an excellent fight for 2024.
Gervonta Davis
They've already sparred to notorious reactions from each fighter.
All that's left is a collision course to detonate in the pros in what would be one of the biggest, must-see bouts to make in boxing, period.
Could Haney use his sweet science skills to negate the boxing skills and explosive power of "Tank?"
The boxing community and the world over would have that question answered if these two would get this super fight made.
