Floyd Mayweather vs. Mikey Garcia - Robert Garcia provides major update on potential bout

Floyd Mayweather vs. Mikey Garcia - Robert Garcia provides major update on potential boutDAZN
Will an exhibition contest take place before the end of the year?

It doesn’t look like Mikey Garcia will be facing Floyd Mayweather in an exhibition bout later this year.

Reports last week were full of speculation that the former pound-for-pound superstar would be returning to the ring to face Garcia, a four-weight world champion who shared the ring with top fighters such as Errol Spence and Adrien Broner.

Inactive since a 2021 loss to Sandor Martin, a result not many people expected, it appears that Garcia had slipped into retirement mode before the Mayweather talk appeared out of nowhere.

Robert Garcia, Mikey’s older brother and one of boxing’s leading trainers, has shut down the possibility of the contest occurring in December after speaking with his sibling.

“I said, ‘Mikey, are you serious about this?’ When the rumours about him and Mayweather, right away, I screenshotted it,” said Garcia when speaking to K.O. Artist Sports

“I sent it to Mikey, and I said, ‘Mikey, is that true?’ and Mikey said, ‘Nope, there’s no chance at all. I’m just doing it to stay in shape and not gain too much weight.’ So, that’s where we’re at right now.”
