Lerrone Richards was sensationally defeated for the first time as a professional when he was stopped by Steed Woodall in Bolton.
Richards, once the IBO world champion, was protecting an unbeaten record but he fell in the sixth round of the fight and was unable to continue.
Just a couple of years ago, Richards had been identified as one of the brightest hopes in British boxing when defeating Carlos Gongora.
His dominant performance had many believing he was ready for the elite level, but that now appears a long way off.
Richards entered the contest with Woodall a big favourite, but he found himself on the canvas via a big right hand.
The Londoner beat the count and after a quick inspection from the referee, the contest was called off.
