One fighter believes he was too good for Canelo.

George Groves has been gone from boxing for over four years, but that has not stopped the former world champion from still delivering the occasional spot of fighting talk.

Groves walked away from boxing in 2018 after losing to Callum Smith following a lengthy career that saw him take part in numerous high-profile fights.

Groves’ most memorable moments came in bitter rivalries against James DeGale and Carl Froch with the latter stopping him twice.

One name missing from Groves’ record is Canelo Alvarez, and with the Mexican now ruling the super-middleweight division Groves once operated in, the London fighter has had his say on the pound-for-pound superstar.

“I was unstoppable at super middleweight, you can't deny Canelo is a force, but Bivol showed you a blueprint on how to beat him,” said Groves when speaking to Grosvenor Casinos.

“You can't go in there and be reckless, you'd have to be measured like Bivol was.

“I was good with my feet, good with my straight shots and I wouldn't let Canelo close the distance and I wouldn't linger on the ropes and it would have been my hardest fight if it had happened, but there's no way I would not have dealt Canelo a loss.”
