Former Gervonta Davis victim calls out Ryan Garcia

Former Gervonta Davis victim calls out Ryan GarciaDAZN

Rolly Romero has his first bout in almost a year this weekend when the Las Vegas fighter takes on Ismael Barroso in his home city with the WBA super-lightweight title at stake.

Romero hasn’t fought since being stopped by Gervonta Davis in May 2022, but the defeat hasn’t shattered his confidence and he’s aiming for a showdown with Ryan Garcia.

The California man suffered his first loss last month when he was also stopped by Davis, but it appears his profile hasn’t suffered with fighters still calling him out.

Romero is fully focused on the task immediately ahead of him but if successful against Barroso, he’s made it very clear who is next target will be.

“There’s definitely the Ryan Garcia fight,” said Romero when speaking to the press ahead of his next fight.

“I mean, I think everybody’s asking for me versus Ryan right now, especially at 140.

"You know, we’re both at 140 now, and I think that’s the fight. You know, I think that’s a massive fight and, you know, boxing needs that fight. It has a long buildup – a long, long buildup.”
