Could we see two ex-footballers meet in the ring?

Jason McAteer has challenged Roy Keane to a boxing match and has asked Eddie Hearn to help get it on.

The former Liverpool full back was international teammates with Keane when they both represented Ireland in a number of high-profile games, but it doesn’t appear that they were friends despite competing for the same cause.

Recently, Keane made comments about McAteer when going through his career red cards and one of them involved an incident where he elbowed McAteer when Manchester United played Sunderland in 2002.

Keane showed little remorse for the altercation and his reaction has prompted a strong response from McAteer.

"I’d rather him come in here now and he just, let bygones be bygones, let’s just be civil. Or we can get in the ring for £1m each and fight it out,” said McAteer when speaking on beIN Sports

“Eddie, if you're watching. Eddie Hearn, get him on the phone. Roy, come on, you’re better than that. And I’ll stop reacting."
