Zelfa Barrett has said he would take on a title eliminator fight with Jordan Gill next.
Barrett fought a couple of weeks ago to defeat fellow super featherweight, Romania’s Costin Ion.
More recently still, Gill stopped Michael Conlan in Belfast, and the pair of them can consider themselves as in the running for a world title shot.
Conlan fought Shavkat Rakhimov for the IBF champion last year, and while the Briton acquitted himself well, he suffered a ninth-round stoppage defeat.
Barrett has also been linked with the current IBF belt holder, Joe Cordina, and he would prefer a fight with the Welshman or one of the other champions at 130lbs: Emanuel Navarette, O’Shaquie Foster, and Lamont Roach.
However, speaking to BoxingScene.com, he made it clear that Gill was a bout he would be happy to take on.
“Look, I’m not calling him out. I’d prefer to be calling out the world champions,” he said. “Jordan isn’t a world champion and I’d be getting nothing from it but if Eddie [Hearn] said to me, ‘Yo, Zelfa. Jordan Gill in a final eliminator for a world title,’ then I’ll take that fight all day long. No question about it.
“I wanted the winner out of them two [Gill and Conlan] anyway and Gill won. He can’t jump the queue though so if that’s the fight for a final eliminator, I’ll take it with both hands.”
