Deontay Wilder has been advised to retire from boxing following consecutive losses to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang.
Earlier this month, Wilder was stopped in five rounds by Zhang as he looked to rebuild after a defeat to Parker at the backend of last year.
Wilder had been hoping to secure another world title shot or a huge fight against Anthony Joshua, but it’s not clear what he’ll do next.
Chris Algieri, a former world champion, has urged his fellow American to walk away from boxing, but admits that the financial incentive to carry on could still be there,
"The time has come for him to retire – but there’s so much money involved in the heavyweight division in 2024 that there’s no guarantee that he will,” said Algieri in his latest BoxingScene column.
“Before he lost to Zhang there was again interest in him fighting Anthony Joshua, which showed his enduring appeal, but while that appeal has again been undermined, if he wants to fight again, he almost certainly will.
