Frank Bruno was twice stopped by Mike Tyson, but the powerful New Yorker is not the hardest puncher he faced.
Bruno’s lengthy career was ended by Tyson in 1996 as he defeated Bruno to take away the world title he had won the previous year at Wembley Stadium by defeating Oliver McCall on a memorable night for British boxing.
Despite hitting incredible heights by becoming world champion in 1995, Bruno also endured several hard nights in the ring against the likes of Tyson and Lennox Lewis.
After sharing the ring with two of the best from his era, neither take the award as the biggest hitter Bruno faced with James Smith taking the honour after halting Bruno in 1984.
“Smith had a hard punch, and he was strong. This was one of my hardest fights,” said Bruno when speaking to The Ring.
“I was quite young at the time, and he was a lot older. I lost this fight outright, but it gave me a lot of experience. I learned a lot from his punches and tried to use his style later on in my boxing.”
