Galal Yafai says he is ready to face Sunny Edwards live on DAZN this weekend, and he hopes victory can take him closer to his dream of becoming world champion.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games star will hope to add the interim WBC title to his gold medal against the former IBF flyweight champion at bp pulse LIVE in Birmingham.
Ahead of the fight, much has been made about Yafai's relative inexperience as a professional compared to the veteran Edwards, despite being three years older.
But speaking on DAZN's FACE OFF before their bout, the former insists he is more than up to the task at hand, and hopes victory can build towards his ultimate goal.
"Million percent [I am ready]," he said. "Sunny’s a good fighter. I’ve shared loads of round with him. I’ve watched him for years, he’s watched me for years.
"People are going to think it’s too soon for me, but that’s fine. I’ll prove them wrong. I can see why [he is the favourote]. He’s been world champion. He’s fought title fights.
"I’m not someone who looks far ahead. I’ve got to beat him first. I want to be world champion. He’s been world champion, I haven’t been world champion. Simple as that."
Yafai arrives on the back of a victory in September over Sergio Oliva, and holds an 8-0 professional record since he topped the podium in Japan three years ago.
Edwards meanwhile will look to improve on a 21-1 record, having returned to winning ways against Adrian Curiel in Arizona this past June.
