Gennadiy Golovkin and Kamil Szeremeta easily make weight for middleweight title clash

Gennadiy Golovkin and Kamil Szeremeta easily make weight for middleweight title clashDAZN
Friday's IBF middleweight title fight on DAZN is official.

Gennadiy Golovkin has a chance to make history on Friday night as he defends the IBF middleweight championship against Kamil Szeremeta from the Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, live exclusively on DAZN. A Golovkin victory breaks the tie with Bernard Hopkins for most middleweight title defenses at 21.

Before Golovkin can step into the ring and attempt to accomplish the feat, he had to make weight. "GGG" did just that quite easily, weighing in last and coming in at 159.2 pounds. Szeremeta (21-0, 5 KOs) tipped the scales first and came in a bit under Golovkin at 159.

Golovkin (40-1-1, 35 KOs) is regarded as one of the best middleweight of this generation, and this fight means a ton to him.

"It (the title defense) is very important for me," Golovkin said to DAZN's Todd Grisham following the weigh-in. "Probably is important for boxing. This guy is ready for a good fight. We will have a good time."

Some boxing pundits have been critical of Golovkin taking on the unknown Szeremeta. The native of Poland is making his United States debut along with competing for a world title for the first time. Golovkin shrugged off the criticism and feels Szeremeta deserves the opportunity.

"He had a good amateur career," Golovkin said. "Right now, he's undefeated. He's No. 1 (contender) and my official challenger. Right now, he has the best record. It's boxing. It's a professional fight. Everybody has a chance."

One fighter missed weight as Calista Silgado came in at 131.4, 1.4 pounds overweight for WBA Women's Super Featherweight title bout against Hyun Mi Choi.
