Gennadiy Golovkin looks tremendous, claims promoter ahead of expected Ryota Murata fightDAZN
Tom Loeffler spoke to The DAZN Boxing Show about Gennadiy Golovkin's preparations ahead of April 9th.

360 Promotions’ Tom Loeffler told the DAZN Boxing Show that Gennadiy Golovkin still has the physique of a 30-year-old fighter.

The middleweight champion will soon be in his fifth decade and is expected to come up against Japanese title holder Ryota Murata in the next few months after their unification clash was postponed last winter due to COVID-19 restrictions in Japan.

Speaking to Akin ‘Ak’ Reyes and Barak Bess, Loeffler was impressed by GGG’s commitment in the gym.

“GGG is in camp, he said everything I have heard, he looks tremendous,” he began.

“GGG will be 40 in April but he looks like a 30-year-old, his muscular structure, his physique.

“He’s getting ready. No announcement from the Japanese side but it’s definitely going in that direction.”

Loeffler also explained why past high-profile fights at 168lbs have failed to materialise, keeping the Khazak at middleweight.

“He would have moved to 168 for [Julio] Chavez Jr, and [Chavez Jr.] turned the fight down. We can’t force them to fight.

"Another was Carl Froch, and we agreed 168, but the simple answer is if it’s not a [commercially] bigger fight at 168, why would you move up?”
