Perhaps the frontrunner for Liam Smith at this stage is a second meeting with the man he beat soundly on Saturday night. Chris Eubank Jr has a rematch clause but due to the one-sided nature of the first meeting, will the defeated Brighton man prefer to go in an alternative direction rather than try to salvage his pride?
The Eubank name carries serious weight in British boxing and there’ll be plenty of options for Junior to rebuild following this setback.
Will he do that against Conor Benn? Or will the lure of levelling the series with Smith be too much of a temptation?

Another big domestic name linked to Smith is Kell Brook. Boxing fans thought they had seen the last of the former world welterweight champion when he seemingly rode off into the sunset following his brutal destruction of long-time rival, Amir Khan, just under a year ago.
Heading into last week’s battle between Smith and Eubank Jr, Ben Shalom, the promoter of the event, revealed that Brook was interested in facing the victor.

The big one for Liam Smith would be a showdown with the world’s leading middleweight, Gennadiy Golovkin. The next move of the hard-hitting Kazakh is still unknown following his loss to Canelo Alvarez last year, but if he’s looking for a hungry contender to challenge him for his top spot at 160lbs, then Smith fits the bill.
The battering of Eubank Jr. last weekend will place Smith on the radar of all the world’s leading fighters from 154lbs and the division above. Plenty of stellar names operate in these weight classes, but it’s Golovkin that would represent the sternest test.
