Gennaidy Golovkin predicts fight with Ryota Murata will be 'fight of the year'DAZN
Middleweight bragging rights are at stake when Gennadiy Golovkin faces Ryota Murata this weekend.

Gennadiy Golovkin is expecting an exciting clash when he aims to become unified middleweight champion against Ryota Murata this Saturday. The huge event, exclusively live on DAZN, is a fight Golovkin must win if he’s to secure a trilogy meeting with great rival, Canelo Alvarez, later this year.

The Kazakh superstar is having his first contest in over a year and approaching the age of 40, a landmark where most fighters have retired, ‘GGG’ has no intention of slowing down. 2022 has the potential to be the defining year of Golovkin’s career, and his imminent battle in Japan against the local favourite is one he’s looking forward to.

"Murata is the most important fight. Period. I do not look ahead,” said Golovkin when speaking with Boxing Scene. “I have been fully invested in training for the fight I have in front of me. I have too much respect for Murata and his body of work. My focus is on him and winning his title. That is why I am in Japan. I look forward to fighting in a packed arena. I have missed that energy.

“It is going to be exciting because we both have similar styles of fighting. We are both power punchers, we are aggressive, and we come forward. Diamonds cut diamonds and on Saturday, there will be two diamonds in the ring. It will be a boxing gift to the fans. I expect it to be the fight of the year."
