The Briton had suggested he would have no trouble against the Mexican legend.

George Groves’ claims that he would beaten Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez ‘hands down’ led to some exasperation and disbelief on the DAZN Boxing Show.

Akin Reyes and Barak Bess said they would both have to throw in the towel after seeing his comments.

The British fighter might have had a twinkle in his eye when he made the suggestion, but the DAZN Boxing Show hosts thought even joking about it was a bit much considering Groves’ track record.

“We got to throw in a towel on somebody,” began Reyes.

“He's a fighter from the UK. George Groves. He says that he would have beaten Canelo. Now, this is the same guy that got stopped twice by Carl Froch, lost to Badou Jack and got knocked out by Callum Smith — who Canelo annihilated.

“Now I know styles make fights, but let's be honest: George Groves, would he ever have a chance against Canelo?”

Bess agreed, and dismissed the claims out of hand and acknowledged the sarcasm at play.

“This is more like the British sarcasm and the reason why I'm still gonna throw in the towel on this guy, even though I feel like it was sarcasm: because he just took it too far.

“He just kept speaking and kept speaking about it and I believe it behind the gloves. And no, bro, this you didn't have a chance. I saw the smile. So I was like, all right. He's joking, but he's going a little too far with his comment here. So I said, 'You know what, let's throw in the towel on this guy.' No way can he beat Canelo.”
