Heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury will sponsor his local side Morecambe Football Club for the 2022/23 season.

Fury, who announced his intention to retire from professional fighting in April after defeating Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium, announced the decision at Morecambe’s Mazuma Stadium on Thursday.

Fury will sponsor the shorts of the players’ kits.

He said: "Big announcement, the Gypsy King has just sponsored my local club, Morecambe Football Club.

"Let's have a fantastic season and smash it!"

He continued: “I love the Morecambe area and it is a pleasure to be able to support my local club."

Morcambe published a statement on their website, which read: "Morecambe FC is proud to announce a short sponsorship deal with the two-time Heavyweight Champion of the World, Tyson Fury.

"The initial deal will see Tyson’s Gypsy King brand featuring on the home and away playing shorts for the 2022/23 Sky Bet League One season, with a further announcement to be made at a later date, that will see the Gypsy King brand extend its partnership with the club."

Fury resides in Morecambe and often releases clips on social media as he trains in the area.

Despite his retirement, he continues to discuss and be linked with a potential return to sport, particularly once Anthony Joshua’s rematch with Oleksandr Usyk is concluded in August.
