How Tyson Fury's win over Francis Ngannou affects the pound-for-pound top 10

Tyson Fury wasn't himself against Francis Ngannou.

Tyson Fury was once a regular fixture on boxing’s pound for pound lists, but he was removed from the DAZN rankings when he announced his retirement in 2022.

Despite returning to action, Fury still hasn’t returned to the top 10 off the back of a predictable third win over Derek Chisora, and his inclusion seems further away following his lacklustre performance against Francis Ngannou on October 28.

Fury was dropped in the fight’s third round and was pushed hard throughout before escaping with his unbeaten record via split decision.

The result means Fury’s undisputed battle with Oleksandr Usyk, initially targeted for December 23, is no longer happening with next year being the likely target for the bout.

With Fury’s reputation as the world’s best heavyweight under severe scrutiny, victory over Usyk will go some way to restoring it.

Such a win is the likely path for Fury to return to the pound for pound list with Usyk currently sitting third behind Naoya Inoue and Terence Crawford.
