Katie Taylor is one of the biggest names in women's boxing right now.
The undisputed lightweight champion is preparing for the biggest fight of her life when she takes on Amanda Serrano at Madison Square Garden on April 30th, a fight which is exclusively live worldwide on DAZN.
However, hasn't been all plain sailing for Taylor, most notably during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
After winning gold at London 2012 four years prior, Taylor was being billed as the favourite to replicate the same success in Brazil in the lightweight tournament.
Taylor however failed to defend her Olympic title after crashing out in the quarter-final stage where she lost to Finland's Mira Potkonen via a split decision.
With both women being awarded two rounds apiece following the final bell, many expected Taylor to be given a place in the last four, but instead it was Potkonen who was awarded the decision.
Just like a number of bouts during the Rio 2016 games, Taylor vs. Potkonen was investigated by lawyer Richard McClaren for evidence of corruption and while this particular result was described as suspicious, DAZN commentator Mike Costello believes this was one of th least controversial Olympic boxing results.
"If we’re going to list the five contests that we’re talking about today in terms of the degrees of injustice, this would be at the bottom. This would be number five for me," Costello told Chris Mannix on DAZN.
"As I scored the contest and this is in hindsight, I didn’t see it live as you did, I scored it two rounds apiece.
"Four two minute rounds in the women’s boxing at the Olympic games, I scored it two rounds apiece which means I’ve got to then nominate the winner and I would’ve nominated Katie Taylor.
"Her all-round ability, her all-round capability, and her all-round dominance in the two rounds that she won."
Costello puts forward the case that both women produced accountable performances and the result came down to the subjective judging.
"In the second round in particular, Potkonen, the Finnish woman who she beat five times before landed some really solid right hands, and I think sometimes it’s difficult to weigh in the subjective nature of boxing judging.
"I struggle to mount a really serious argument in favour of the boxers in this contest."
