Ireland's Katie Taylor will fight England's Chantelle Cameron on Saturday night at the 3Arena in Dublin.
It is one of the most anticipated rematches in boxing this year, and the WBO, WBC, WBA, IBF and The Ring titles are on the line.
The 37-year-old Taylor will be eager to win back those titles she lost earlier this year, but she has already won the hearts of the Irish public.
Fans explained why Taylor means so much to them ahead of Saturday night's fight. Speaking to the Independent, some fans said that Taylor is now a God-like figure.
Peter Carroll said, "She's like a deity; she's not like an athlete. I don’t think anyone has meant as much to Ireland as Katie."
Taylor has put Irish sport on the global map. Carroll elaborated, saying, "I personally think she’s the greatest Irish athlete ever, and that won’t change if she loses on Saturday. People will bring up GAA [Gaelic football] players and rugby players... Where are the world titles?"
Taylor won Olympic gold at London 2012 and world titles in two weight divisions. Other fans have praised Taylor's humble attitude; "If I could sum it up for you in one word: Humility."
Saturday night is massive for Taylor and her career. The 3Arena will provide a raucous backdrop, and the Bray native will have her country's full support in her corner.
As Peter Carroll succinctly said, "Katie Taylor is what we want to be. That’s why she’s taken on this saintly aura to Irish people.
