Before becoming the undisputed champion at lightweight, Devin Haney received a lot of criticism when it came to the legitimacy of his WBC title.
The American was given the green and gold belt in September 2019 after then-champion Vasiliy Lomachenko was named the 'franchise' champion, which led to some fans labelling Haney an 'email champion'.
Since then, Haney went on to make four defences of his WBC title before beating unified champion George Kambosos Jr., who held Teofimo Lopez's 'franchise' title following his points win in New York last year.
As a result of Haney now possesing all the world titles at 135lbs, it's led to some questions over whether he is now a 'franchise' champion, but when speaking to The DAZN Boxing Show, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman revealed a decision is yet to be made as to whether Haney will be given this particular honour.
"We have not talked about it, when everything was going on during this fight I saw some posts and indirect media saying he will not care about the franchise title," Sulaiman said.
"So we did nothing, we have not done any paperwork about the franchise, it is a designation that benefits specifically in lightweight, it gave it so much activity.
"If Devin does not want to enforce it, he is free right now to take on any fights.
"They say it’s going to be a rematch in October, but I’m just enjoying the moment with Devin Haney."
A 'franchise' designation by the WBC would allow the reigning champion to enjoy a special status when it came to mandatory obligations, holding multiple world titles and competing for other organisations' titles, but the WBC board of governors would rule on any decisions made by the champion on a case-by-case basis.
