After stopping Ryan Garcia on Saturday night, Gervonta Davis declared that he was the new face of boxing following his success in one of the biggest fights of 2023.
While Davis is starting to enter many top 10 pound-for-pound lists, some still question whether Davis is a global star.
This was up for debate on the latest instalment of JABS and Sergio Mora believes Davis' lack of starpower across the world means he is not the biggest name in the sport.
"No, he’s not the face of boxing," Mora stated.
"‘Tank’ Davis is wildly popular like you just stated, he’s must-watch TV, he’s one of the biggest punchers in boxing, we saw how he packed out T-Mobile.
"Yes he’s a star, yes he’s a pay-per-view seller, but he’s not the face of boxing.
"Canelo Alvarez still holds that championship. If you go across the world, Tyson Fury is in the UK and Europe. If you go to Japan or Asia it’s Naoya Inoue.
"I don’t think internationally Davis is the face of boxing, but he is a star, puts butts in seats and puts fighters on their butts so absolutely must-watch TV."
Chris Mannix however disagreed, and thinks the fact that Davis' fights are must-see sporting events makes him the face of boxing regardless of positioning on various pound-for-pound lists.
"I don’t think you need to be number one, number two, number three on the pound-for-pound list to be the face of boxing," Mannix began.
"I don’t think Terence Crawford is the face of boxing, I don’t think Oleksandr Usyk is the face of boxing, I don’t think Naoya Inoue is the face of boxing, these are three guys I have in the top five on my pound-for-pound list.
"The reason why I think ‘Tank’ Davis has a pretty compelling argument to be the face of boxing is because he does draw massive crowds and that matters when you’re designating someone to be the face of boxing.
"He is must-see TV because at any moment, a ‘Tank’ Davis fight can end and that matters, and he is starting to gain that respect as a boxer."
