Michael Conlan is considering all options following his heartbreaking loss to Luis Alberto Lopez this past weekend.
Conlan welcomed the heavy-handed Mexican to Belfast but despite having home advantage, Conlan couldn’t make it count after he was stopped in the fifth round following a gruelling battle.
Conlan’s defeat is the second time in 15 months he’s fallen short at world title level following last year’s setback against Leigh Wood.
Still one of boxing’s most popular draws, Conlan can bank on a ton of support regardless of his next move, but the Irish star has admitted that there’s a number of possibilities as he takes a break to reflect on his most recent fight.
“I have some decisions to make. I’m just going to go away, take my time before I decide to do anything,” said Conlan when speaking with the Belfast Telegraph.
“Should I fight, finish or whatever, I’ve got to think about that and have a real honest conversation with myself and my team. It’s been a long career and I haven’t reached the level of professional boxing I believe my ability could have.
“Some people’s route to world titles are harder than others. Timing and everything else comes into the equation, but unfortunately it hasn’t played out how I wanted it to.”
Conlan added, “There is still time if I decide to stay on, not loads of time, but time. It’s still a conversation I need to have with myself and my team.”
