The DAZN Boxing Show discussed whether William Zepeda is ready for a title shot against Devin Haney.
Haney is preparing for a fight later this month with former unified champion Vasily Lomachenko, and after that it is conceivable that he remains at 135lbs for further fights.
Zepeda defeated Jaime Arboleda at the weekend with a comprehensive stoppage, and speaking on DAZN, Akin ‘Ak’ Reyes wondered where next for the Mexican.
He asked: “Zepeda wins big in the second round, how does he fare in this stacked division?”
Barak Bess replied: “That’s a good question, he looked good against Arboleda, but this division is the best division in boxing right now.
“As long as people stay - we lost Teofimo [Lopez Jr.] already. He went up to 140.
“As long as people stay, it’s hard for any of these newcomers to say he’s going to look good against a Devin Haney. “
Reyes wondered how Zepeda might fare against some other highly ranked contenders.
“I think there are a lot of fighters in the light division that we could compare him to, or we could say how does he do against Frank Martin?” he said.
Reyes acknowledged: “Frank Martin looks elite, Keyshawn Davis looks elite, but he’s gonna be talked about in that class and maybe they’re going to clash eventually. He deserves it, that’s for sure.”
