Isaac Chamberlain planning Chris Billam-Smith rematch: '100 percent'DAZN

Chris Billam-Smith defeated Isaac Chamberlain on Saturday night in Bournemouth to defend his European and Commonwealth titles.

Fighting in his hometown, Billam-Smith was cheered on by a hugely supportive crowd, but it was a tough, gruelling fight for the British pair.

Both boxers had their moments as the fight went the distance, but ultimately the incumbent was clearly the more accomplished fighter and he was judged the winner by unanimous  decision, with each of the three judges giving him the nod by 117-111.

"The corner was incredible," Billam-Smith said after the fight. "They knew exactly the right thing to say every time.

He had words of praise for his opponent, saying: "What an unbelievable fight. Isaac's a warrior, I knew he was.

"I knew when to just ease off and go again, and give him a little bit of success, and then I took it away from him and broke his heart."

Chamberlain blamed a lack of experience in going 12 rounds, but was clear he wanted a rematch.

"It wasn't my night. A lot of ring-rust. I haven't done 12 rounds before. But I'll get back in the gym as soon as possible," he stated.

"This is my first ever 12-rounder, so I will be back."

Asked about a rematch, he said: "100 percent."
